Hi everyone, my name is Peyton. I'm the reason your teacher is not at work nagging you and making your lives miserable. My daddy hasn't slept and is running off fried rice, pringles, and energy drinks. He did tell me to tell you that you should do your best to complete the projects you have on going. And that he is excited as usual to see the awesome creative photos, films, and designs his students come up with. If you have any questions you can always email him at [email protected] and he'll try to get back to you because they have free wi-fi at the hospital. I will do my best to be an easy baby, so he can go back to teaching you on either Friday or Monday. Looking forward to meeting all you wonderful people one day. - Peyton <3 |

On November 8, 2013 one of the largest typhoons ever recorded ripped through the Philippines. 12 million lives at risk and over 4 million children are in danger. Officials are now estimating that as many as 10,000 deaths may have been caused in the Philippines by the landfall of one of the most powerful storms on record, Super Typhoon Haiyan. Wind gusts were measured up to 195 mph, and the storm's reach extended over a thousand miles as it approached the Philippines last Friday. The extent of the devastation is still being assessed by humanitarian groups, but all measures so far indicate a historic level of damage, requiring millions in aid and years for recovery. We've been discussing in class the power of photography (exceptional photographs). As you browse through the power images capturing the devastation and destruction that statement hold quite true. You become emotionally invested, a connection is made with the images of events happening thousands of miles away from you, and you stop, stop to think about how these events are impacting our global village.
Exceptional photography as the ability to hit you like a punch in the gut -- something that words can rarely do. A picture should engage the head, the heart and the stomach…The best photography moves people no matter what culture they come from. CNN PHOTO STORY THE ATLANTIC GALLERY
