When I was a kid, my best friend was creativity. I did have actual real live friends, but figuratively speaking my creativity took me places that television or video games couldn't. Whether it was drawing/doodling, ormaking forts and swords. The physicality of taking objects and things around me at home and making them into something else was simply put "a lot of fun". This nine year old boy who makes his own arcade out of cardboard reminds me of that creativity we sometimes forget to use. In today's world of the internet (Googling), smart phones, and instant information, we have left our right side of the brain unused and untapped. I see this day after day, students sitting around, not knowing where or how to start on a project. Stuck, for a better lack of words. Not knowing how to get their creative juices going. And I attribute part of this "stuck" to not exercising or creativity, not participating in activities that allow us to tap into our creativity or problem solving skills. Take Caine's Arcade as a reminder that sometimes we need to just play and have fun. |
